MASECA® EN LA COCINA CON LAS ESTRELLAS RECIPE CONTEST

OFFICIAL RULES

HOW IT WORKS: From 1/7/08 through 11/15/08 (“promotional period”), MASECA® invites you to enter the MASECA® En La Cocina Con Las Estrellas Recipe Contest, by submitting an original recipe using a MASECA® product as one of the ingredients.  To be eligible for the contest and to also receive a MASECA® Kitchen Utensil Set (while supplies last), you must submit purchase receipt(s) dated during the promotional period for a minimum of 3 Maseca products.  If you do not submit a recipe, you will not be entered into the contest, but you will receive a MASECA® Kitchen Utensil Set (see offer details at the end of these rules).

TWO WAYS TO ENTER: There will be three entry periods.  See the chart below for start dates and deadlines for each entry period.

• ENTER ONLINE: Beginning 4:00 PM (ET) on 1/7/08 through 11:59:59 PM (ET) on 11/15/08, access the MASECA® en la Cocina con la Estrellas Recipe Contest by visiting www.mimaseca.com.  Follow on-screen entry instructions to submit your original recipe following the Recipe Guidelines stated below.  To be eligible for the contest and to receive a MASECA® Kitchen Utensil Set, you must mail your purchase receipt(s) along with a plain piece of paper in which you have printed your complete name, recipe name, street address (no P.O. Boxes), city, state, zip code, date of birth (mm/dd/yyyy) and day & evening telephone numbers via first-class mail to: “MASECA® en la Cocina con las Estrellas” Recipe Contest- Online Entry, P.O. Box 592989, San Antonio, TX 78259.  Purchase receipts must be received by the mailed entry receipt deadline in chart below.

• ENTER VIA MAIL: On a plain piece of paper (one side only), type or hand print the following: a) your complete name, street address (no P.O. Boxes), city, state, zip code, date of birth (mm/dd/yyyy) and day & evening telephone numbers and b) your original recipe, following the Recipe Guidelines stated below.  Mail your entry and recipe via first-class mail to: “MASECA® en la Cocina con las Estrellas” Recipe Contest, P.O. Box 592989, San Antonio, TX 78259.  Enclose your purchase receipt(s) with your entry in order to be eligible for the contest and to receive a MASECA® Kitchen Utensil Set.  Limit one entry per envelope.  Illegible entries are void.  Not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, misdirected, postage due or mutilated/damaged entries.  All material submitted becomes property of Sponsor and will not be returned.

RECIPE GUIDELINES: Recipes must include at least one MASECA® product as one of the ingredients and may not include any products which are competitive with MASECA® products (including but not limited to: MASABROSA, La Piña, Tres Estrellas).  Ingredients must be readily available.  All ingredients must be listed together with exact standard measurements/weights/flavors.  Complete preparation instructions must be given including specific types and sizes of any cooking equipment/utensils used, timing and approximate number of servings.  Each recipe must be an original recipe, created by entrant that has not previously been published nor won a prize or award.  Recipes must be in either English or Spanish.  Limit one entry per person, per entry period.  Each entry must be accompanied by the purchase receipts as described above.

PRELIMINARY JUDGING:  Entries will be preliminarily judged to determine 10 Semi-Finalists per entry period (total of 30 Semi-Finalists) by a panel of Sponsor representatives.  All preliminary judging will be based on the following criteria:  originality – 50%, perceived ease of preparation – 30% and creative use of MASECA® ingredient(s)– 20%.  In the event of a tie, tiebreaker will be based on the highest score for “Originality.”  Semi-Finalists will be notified by mail/and or telephone.

SEMI-FINALIST/FINALIST EVENTS:  The total of 30 Semi-Finalist recipes will be prepared and then judged to determine 1 Finalist per entry period (total of 3 Finalists) by a panel of food experts.  The Semi-Finalist cook-off will be held in San Antonio and may be aired on Univision.  Limit one Semi-Finalist per family/household.  The Finalist cook-off will be held in Miami in December 2008 and will be aired on the Univision morning show, “Despierta America”.  At the Finalist cook-off, each Finalist will be required to personally prepare their recipes exactly as submitted.  Judging to determine the First Prize, Second Prize and Third Prize winners will be accomplished by a panel of food experts.  Judging at both events will be based on the following criteria: taste - 50%, ease of preparation– 20%, appearance – 15% and originality and creativity – 15%.  In the event of a tie at any cook-off, tiebreaker will be based on the highest score for “taste.”  MASECA® will select and supply ingredients and cooking equipment to be used at each judging event.  MASECA® reserves the right to substitute comparable products at its discretion.  Locations and dates of events are subject to change.  Sponsor and its agencies reserve the right to disqualify any entry that, in their sole opinion, refers, depicts or in any way reflects negatively upon the Sponsor, the promotion or any other person or entity.

AVAILABLE PRIZES & APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUES: (1) First Prize - $10,000; (1) Second Prize - $5,000; (1) Third Prize - $2,500; all cash prizes will be awarded in the form of a check.  Three (3) Finalist Prizes – A 4-day/3-night trip for two to Miami to compete in the Finalist live cook-off competition in December 2008.  Finalist Prize includes round-trip coach air transportation from major airport nearest Finalist’s home, hotel accommodations (double-occupancy), ground transportation to/from hotel and $900 in spending money (ARV: $2,800 per Finalist Prize).  Actual trip value may vary depending on point of departure and airfare fluctuations.  Finalists who live within a 200 mile radius of the Miami event will receive $200 in lieu of air transportation.  Prizes consist of only the items specifically listed as part of the prize.  Prizes valued in U.S. Dollars. 

GENERAL RULES:  Open only to legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, who, as of date of entry are 18 years of age or older as of date of entry.  Employees of Azteca Milling L.P., HispanoUSA, Univision, their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, directors, trustees, agents, suppliers and their immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of each are not eligible.  Culinary professionals, food writers and critics, cooking teachers, any member of any culinary professional trade association and any person who has served as a chef or assistant chef in a hotel, restaurant, institution, or private catering service (not including quick service restaurants) in the last 5 years are not eligible.  In addition, previous MASECA® En La Cocina Con Las Estrellas Recipe Contest winners are not eligible.  Void in VT, MD and where prohibited by law.  Participation constitutes full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor’s and judges’ decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to this contest.  No substitution or transfer of prize by winner permitted.  Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prize of equal or greater value.  All federal, state and local taxes are the sole responsibility of winner.  All federal, state and local laws apply.  Potential Finalists (or parent/legal guardian if potential winner is a minor in his/her state of residence) must sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Release of Liability/Publicity Release, within 3 days of notification.  Noncompliance within this time period or return of any prize/prize notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification and an alternate will be selected, time permitting.  All Finalists must execute a Release of Liability prior to ticketing and must possess required travel documents (e.g. valid photo ID) prior to departure.  Finalists must agree to travel on dates specified by Sponsor; event dates and times determined in the sole discretion of the Sponsor, and are subject to change.  Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entry which does not comply with these Official Rules.  Sponsor reserves the right to: (a) use entrant’s name and likeness and publish all entries submitted, (b) alter, amend, edit or change entries prior to publication and (c) use, publish, reproduce, alter, amend and copyright for purposes of advertising and trade without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.  By accepting prize, winner agrees to hold Sponsor, their respective directors, officers, employees and assigns, harmless against any and all claims and liability arising out of use of prize.  Entrants (and parent/legal guardian if entrant is a minor) agree to release, discharge and hold harmless Azteca Milling L.P., their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, shareholders, employees, agents, attorneys, other representatives, advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies, harmless from and against any and all liability and damages.  Winners assume all liability for any injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused, by participation in this promotion or use or redemption of any prize.  Sponsor, affiliates, subsidiaries and agencies are not responsible for any typographical or other error in the printing, the offering or announcement of any prize or in the administration of the promotion.  In the event there is a discrepancy between these Official Rules and any sweepstakes materials or translated versions of the rules, the English version of rules shall prevail, govern and control.

INTERNET CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS PROMOTION IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS, AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.  Not responsible for faulty, incorrect or mistranscribed phone transmissions, incorrect announcements of any kind, technical hardware or software failures of any kind including any injury or damage to any person's computer related to or resulting from participating in or experiencing any materials in connection with the promotion, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmission that may limit a user's ability to participate in the promotion. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel or modify the promotion if fraud, misconduct or technical failures destroy the integrity of the program; or if a computer virus, bug, or other technical problem corrupts the administration or security of the program as determined by Sponsor/judging agency/administrator, in their sole discretion.  In the event the online entry portion of the Contest is terminated, a notice will be posted online and all eligible entries received prior to termination will be included in the preliminary judging indicated in Rule #3.  Any damage made to the Web Site will be the responsibility of the authorized e-mail account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry.  Proof of submitting entries will not be deemed to be proof of receipt by Sponsor.  Any use of robotic, automatic, programmed or the like methods of participation will void all such submissions by such methods.  Sponsor reserves the right to freeze or close an account or to prohibit the participation of an individualif fraud or tampering is suspected or if the individualfails to comply with any requirement of participation as stated herein or with any provision in these Official Rules.  This promotion is sponsored by Azteca Milling Inc., 1159 Cottonwood Lane, Suite 130, Irving, Texas 75038.
