JUNIOR COOK CONTEST LIST

Welcome, Junior Cooks! This page lists contests that people under 18 years old may be able to enter. Some of them are recipe contests, and others want an essay or a video.

Each has different age requirements to enter the contest, so check the "ELIGIBILITY" line of the summary to see if you can enter that one. Some contests you must enter together with an adult.

Some have no mention of age limitations in the rules, so for now we are allowing them on this page. We will try to find out from the sponsors if they will truly take entries from those under 18.

TIMES NEWS COOKBOOK AND RECIPE CONTEST

DESCRIPTION

Enter a recipe in one of the seven categories selected for this year's cookbook: Salads, Vegetables & Sides; Main Dish; Slow Cooker; Health Conscious; Burger Bonanza; Entertaining; and of course, Desserts and Baked Goods.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to all — but if you are a finalist, you must bring your prepared dish to the TIMES NEWS office in Mahoning Township, PA for final judging.

PRIZES

Winners in each category will receive a $50 grocery store gift card and a $50 gift card to Roadies Restaurant at Penn's Peak, plus a choice of two cookbooks valued at close to $20 each. In addition, the grand prize winner will receive a $100 gift card to Roadies Restaurant and a $100 grocery store gift card.

CREATE DUNKIN'S NEXT DONUT CONTEST

DEADLINE

March 8, 2010

DESCRIPTION

Create your unique donut online beginning with one of Dunkin Donut's 7 doughs, then choosing a shape, fillings, icing and toppings to complete your creation. Give it a name and write a short essay about what inspired it and/or why it is the best.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to legal residents of the United States and DC who are at least 13 years old. Minors must have their parent/guardian's permission to enter. Prizes will be awarded to the parent or legal guardian of any winner who is a minor in his/her state of residence.

PRIZES

Grand Prize: $12,000.00 check made payable to the winner and the opportunity to have the Donut Creation produced as part of the Dunkin' Donuts product line as a Limited Edition donut.
12 Finalists will each receive one year of donuts (Dunkin' Donuts gift cards totaling $364); a Flip Ultra™ Camcorder (ARV $150); a $1,200 check ; and a trip for each Finalist and 1 guest to the Bake-off in Braintree, MA (ARV $2,600) on or about 4/29/10 through 5/6/10 for the opportunity to assist Dunkin' Donuts representative(s) and select chefs in the Dunkin' Donuts test kitchen in the finishing of their Donut Creation. “STIRRING UP HEALTH™” NATIONAL MIDDLE SCHOOL RECIPE CONTEST

DESCRIPTION

Enter your original (or revised and credited) recipe that includes Del Monte canned fruit, vegetable or tomato as a primary ingredient and ingredients from at least 3 food groups. Recipe must follow the sample format and be lower in fat, sugar, and salt compared to a typical recipe. You must also enter a photo of the prepared recipe and answer essay questions. This contest may also be entered by a whole class/group. Let your teachers know!

ELIGIBILITY

Open to students currently enrolled in 7th or 8th grade.

PRIZES

Chef for a Day for 4 National Winners: A J&W University chef will prepare YOUR recipe with you at a school event! Culinary gift package for 2nd place recipe winners in each category. Top 20 recipe winners/honorary mentions featured on the HKC Web site.

COOKING UP CHANGE

DESCRIPTION

Design a healthy school lunch (1 entrée, 2 sides) and submit the recipes, a report on the nutritional content of the recipes, and photos of your team during various stages of the process. Use only ingredients from the official ingredient list.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to one team of 3 high school students per school, with a teacher mentor. Students and teacher must be part of some school-sponsored culinary or cooking program, class, or club, and 1 must have foodservice sanitation certification.

PRIZES

3 Finalist teams will receive all-expense paid trips to Detroit, MI to a cook-off at Taking Root, the National Farm to Cafeteria conference May 16-18, 2010. Trip includes air fare, transportation throughout contest activities, hotel, and three meals per day on trip. 1 team will win top honors and return home with a first place trophy and other awesome prizes.

"REAL FOOD IS…" VIDEO CONTEST

DEADLINE

DESCRIPTION

Submit a video between 30 seconds and 3 minutes in length that includes answers to these questions: 1) What does real food mean to you? 2) How does what we eat affect our culture, health, economy, or environment? 3) Why should your cafeteria start or continue buying local food?

ELIGIBILITY

This contest is limited to K-12 and college students; the video may be a group project.

PRIZES

2 winners, one k-12 and one college video entry, will receive $1,000 for their cafeteria food project; 1 representative from each winning video entry and a select chaperone win an all expense paid trip (registration, travel, and lodging) to the 5th National Farm to Cafeteria Conference in Detroit, Michigan May 17-19, 2010. The winning videos will be viewed at the conference and prominently displayed on the Farm to School website.

Open to legal residents of the 50 United States and DC who are 16 years of age or older at time of entry. Void in PR and where prohibited by law.

PRIZES

Grand Prize Winner will receive $125,000.
6 First Prize Winners (1/category) will each receive $5,000.
18 Finalists each receive trips to New York City for themselves and 1 guest August 27-30, 2010, to be judged in a live cookoff. Trip includes transportation, hotel accommodations for 3 nights, and 1 event-sponsored meal for 2, per day (ARV for each Finalist Trip Prize: $3000). Have your parent/guardian sreate a 3-10 minute video of you preparing the original recipe that is submitted with the recipe. Alternately, you may enter a photo and recipe, but this option is eligible only for the Honorable Mention Prize. The recipe must contain at least one or more Wholesome Sweeteners, Neislen-Massey Vanillas, Endangered Species Chocolates or Annie Chuns product as an ingredient.

ELIGIBILITY

This contest is to be officially entered by the parent or guardian of a child 4-17 years old, who is shown cooking the recipe in the video submitted.
